MALAGA, LEADER OF ANDALUSIA IN THE EXPORT OF MEAT PRODUCTS

The Government delegate highlights the province’s export potential during a visit to the company Famadesa, which has increased its sales abroad by 26% in the first quarter of 2021.

Patricia Navarro points out that the agri-food sector in Malaga will be a fundamental pillar for the economic recovery of the province.

The delegate of the Andalusian Government in Malaga, Patricia Navarro, today reported that Malaga is the Andalusian province that exports the most meat products, according to the latest data prepared by Extenda-Andalusia Export and Foreign Investment.

During a visit to the meat industry Famadesa, Patricia Navarro highlighted the export potential of the province of Malaga and especially of the meat industry, whose exports already reach 25 million euros per month, according to data from January 2021, the latest available.

In this regard, he explained that Malaga is one of the top ten provinces in Spain in terms of meat product exports, in seventh place, with Malaga’s meat exports reaching a record figure of 298 million euros in 2020.

Export markets

The main market for Malaga meat products is China, where 67 percent of exports were invoiced, followed by Portugal (17.5 percent) and France (4.75 percent).

Patricia Navarro has valued the “effort and the great commitment” of the Malaga business community, “which despite the negative consequences that the pandemic is causing on the economy, in the case of this sector we have companies that have increased their exports in 2020 by 31.2 percent”.

He also pointed out that there are now 25 Malaga firms exporting meat products, 17 of which export regularly.

Navarro, after highlighting the exemplary work of Federico Beltrán in the business fabric of Malaga, indicated that the delegates have known the needs of the company to be able to promote growth and expansion projects, adding that “we want to help this company and all those that make up the meat products sector to consolidate the prospects we have for this sector to be key in the economic recovery once we overcome the health crisis”.

The Malaga meat company Famadesa obtained sales of 303 million euros in 2020, with a growth of 7.4% over the 282 million obtained in 2019, with an average workforce of 1,000 people. Some €185m came from pork exports, following a 26% increase, with China and Portugal as the main destinations.

In the first quarter of 2021, the figures reflect a very positive evolution also in terms of exports, and similar to the upward trend of the end of the previous financial year. International sales increased by more than 25% compared to the same period in 2020. The Asian market, mainly China, is once again the main customer or destination, with an increase in sales of 97%.

Its international transactions have been well over a thousand operations for years, mainly with China and Europe, which together with the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Mexico are the main countries of its foreign market.
